How to read a posture score without being misled

Security scores are easy to game and easy to misread. A score is only credible when you can trace it back to the specific findings, controls and evidence that produced it.
Three questions to ask any score
What inputs move it, and how quickly?
Can you drill from the number to the underlying finding?
Does it distinguish exploited vulnerabilities from theoretical ones?
If the answer to any of those is no, the number is a marketing artefact rather than a management tool.
